Selling on Amazon and looking for a way to stand out from competitors? Amazon Brand Registry may be worth a look. The program was updated in April 2017 and protects your trademark on Amazon only. Say you make a beauty product at home: with the registry, you can stop other sellers from copying the product and its packaging. Amazon works together with sellers to fight counterfeits on its marketplace.
What you get from the program
Brand Registry protects your intellectual property rights, much like a registered trademark does. Enrolling brings these benefits:
- Trademark protection: Once your trademark is registered with Amazon, the platform can monitor and act on unauthorized use of your product name, your logo or the product itself. Amazon investigates suspected infringements.
- More control over your listings: Enrolled brands can improve a product's search ranking and tailor descriptions, images and titles as they see fit.
- A closer relationship with Amazon: A stronger working relationship with the platform can help increase your sales.
- A better selling environment overall: Brand protection, better search ranking and richer listing options combine to make selling easier.
Requirements to join
Enrollment requires a registered word mark, meaning a mark made of verbal elements without any design. If you don't have a registered trademark yet, you can use a global trade number exemption until you get one. A registered trademark gives your logo and/or company name formal protection and safeguards your products on Amazon.
Who can enroll
Several kinds of sellers can take part in the program, including:
- Sellers who create their own products
- Producers of private label or white label brands
- Distributors
- Traditional manufacturers
When you enroll, you supply the required information, including the seller's name and details. After enrollment, you can add more people and their roles within your company. For example, if you register your product line in your own name, you can add your marketing director to the registry information later on.
