Updating owner details while keeping the same owner
Yes. Some changes only correct the owner's information on record. The trademark stays with the same owner, so no transfer of ownership takes place. Three common cases are:
- Name change: A company may change its name because its bylaws were amended, for example when it adopts a new business name or switches to a different type of entity. The same entity continues to own the trademark. It simply appears under the new name.
- Address change: The owner's address on record is updated to the new one.
- Change of attorney on file: The owner names a new legal representative or attorney to act for them in the matter.
