Changing the owner of a trademark
A trademark transfer, also called an assignment, takes place when ownership of the mark passes from one party to another. This can happen through a sale, a gift, a merger, a transfer of rights, or a similar event.
Why it must be recorded
Every transfer or assignment needs to be reported to the Trademarks Office, so that the mark is registered in the name of its current owner.
How to submit it
The request is filed with the Trademarks Office together with the documents that prove the change, such as evidence of the sale, gift, merger, or transfer of rights. Depending on the country, the office may or may not charge a fee for recording the transfer.
